The seventh World Expo International Forum is set to kick off in Beijing next Thursday, which aims to explore multi-cultural development in urbanization, provide solutions to challenges threatening the whole international community and look forward to a better future of World Expo.

The forum will gather about 300 officials from the Bureau of International Expositions, Shanghai Municipal Government, ambassadors to China, representatives of international organizations and the organizers of the Expo among others. It is jointly sponsored by BIE and Shanghai government.

Those due to speak include Maurice F. Strong, former undersecretary-general of the United Nations and the first executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme, Mark Rowswell, Canada's commissioner general for Expo 2010, and He Jingtang, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief designer of the China Pavilion.

Six similar forums have been held in Shanghai, Paris, Aichi and Saragoza from 2003 to 2009 as promised by the Shanghai organizer. The Beijing event will be the last international forum before the Expo next year.

Meanwhile, Expo Shanghai Online, a virtual version of the real Expo which will allow users to enjoy the 2010 event through the Internet, will be launched on the sidelines of the forum.

Hundreds of pavilions will have their displays online via three-dimensional and multi-media technologies. A total of 217 participants have agreed to put their exhibition online.
